Neck Diagrams provides easy ways to show commonly used info on note markers - note names, intervals and fingerings. What if you want to show something else?!
This tutorial will guide you through the process of labelling notes using custom labels, allowing you to apply e.g. Roman numerals or any text to your selected notes.
Step 1: Select the note(s) you want to edit
- Identify the note(s) you want to customise.
- Click on the note(s) to select them. Hold down the
SHIFTkey (orCMDon Mac /CTRLon Windows) to select multiple notes.
Step 2: Set the note(s) label option to Custom
- In the Inspector find the Label option in the Style section.
- Click on drop-down list and select the Custom option to enable custom labelling for the selected notes.
- As there's no custom label text specified yet, the appearance of the note won't change yet!
Step 3: Set the custom label text

Right-click on the selected note
- Mac users - if you don't have right-click enabled in System Preferences then hold down

- A context menu will appear.
- From this menu, select Set Custom Label.
Step 4: Enter Your Custom Label
- A dialog box will prompt you to enter your desired label.
- Type in your preferred label, which could be a Roman numeral (e.g., I, II, III) or any text you wish.
- Press OK to apply the label.
Note: Character Substitutions
Characters b, #, bb and ## by default will get substituted for musical symbols ♭, ♯, 𝄫 and 𝄪.
You can disable this via Preferences (Mac - the standard CMD+, keyboard shortcut to open settings, or under the Neck Diagrams 2 top level menu; Windows - via menu Windows > Preferences):
