In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of customizing the size of the dots and circles on your fretboard diagrams in Neck Diagrams. Whether you want to resize all the notes on the fretboard or adjust individual notes, this guide will show you how to do it efficiently.
Using Custom Sizes for All Notes on the Fretboard
You can easily resize all the notes on your fretboard diagrams by using the “Use custom size” setting. This setting allows you to make the notes larger or smaller as needed.
- Step 1: Select the fretboard to be adjusted and make sure the first settings tab is showing in the Inspector (the properties panel on the right of the editor),
- Step 2: In the "Note Markers" section, look for the option labeled "Use custom size" and enable it,
-
Step 3: Adjust the size by entering a pixel value.
- It's also possible to adjust as a percentage of the default size, described in the next section.
Setting a Custom Size as the Default
If you want all new fretboards to automatically use a custom size, you can set this up in your Preferences.
Using a default custom size setting uses percentages rather than pixel values. This approach ensures that the size adjustments remain consistent and proportional, regardless of the fretboard size.
The percentage value is relative - it's a change to the default note marker size for the fretboard, so a value of 100% is the same as the default size; less than 100% will make them smaller, more than 100% will make them larger.
For example, a 125% size will increase note markers by 25% more than the default, giving a uniform look regardless of whether the fretboard is small or large, providing a cohesive appearance in your diagrams.
- Step 1: Go to Preferences in the main menu,
- Step 2: Click on the Fretboard settings in the left-hand list,
- Step 3: Enable "Specify note marker custom sizes as % of default value" and set your preferred percentage,
-
Step 4: To have the specific default custom size applied to new fretboards, enable the "Use custom size" option.
- if you don't enable this this last option, it will let you specify custom sizes in the Inspector as percentage values instead of in pixels, without applying the custom size immediately on fretboard creation.
Customizing the Size of Individual Notes
Say you want to resize only specific notes to highlight those, rather than all of them, you can do this directly from the Inspector.
- Step 1: Select the note(s) you want to resize
- Step 2: In the Inspector, look for the "Use custom size" adjustment option
- Step 3: Adjust the size, either as a pixel value or as a percentage as described above, allowing you to make specific notes larger or smaller than the default size.
Now that you know how to customize note sizes, you can create diagrams that perfectly fit your needs, whether for teaching, presenting, or personal use.
