To create fretboard diagrams or chord boxes you first need a page. You can create new pages that are either blank or pre-configured with fretboards ready for you t add scales and/or chords.
Pre-configured Page
| You can create a new page pre-configured with fretboards and chord boxes using the New Diagram Page wizard (click the link to open the wizard). The wizard can be accessed from the toolbar or the File menu, as shown below | You could also use the File->New Diagram menu option or the keyboard shortcut CTRL+N (Mac: ⌘+N) |
To learn more about the pre-configured pages and how to create your own, see the New Page Templates section.
New Blank Page
| You can create a blank page by clicking the small triangle next to the New Diagram wizard button to open the New Blank Diagram dropdown in the Diagram Gallery view (click the link to create a blank diagram page) | You could also use the File->New Blank Diagram menu option or the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+N (Mac: ⌘+⇧+N) |

The application now switches to the Edit Diagrams view and you have either a blank page or a page pre-configured with fretboards, on which you can create fretboards and add text.

Note that when there was no diagram page open initially, the Edit Diagrams view switcher button, just below the toolbar, was not enabled and once a diagram is created/opened it becomes enabled so you can easily switch between the views, for example if you need to go back to the Diagram Gallery to open a diagram that you want to copy and paste some fretboards from.
Toolbox Appearance
You can change the look of the toolbox by bringing up the context menu (right-clicking) over any of the toolbox items:
