The Automatic Backups feature takes regular backups of your workspace. Each time a backup is taken, a ZIP archive file is created with the same structure as your data folders in the Diagram Gallery view.
- the backup is scheduled to occur at most every 24 hours
- so if Neck Diagrams is running continuously you will have at most one backup file created every day
- a minute or two after starting Neck Diagrams, it checks when the last backup was done and if it was more than 24 hours ago a new backup file is created
- up to 30 backup files are kept, rolling
- once there are 30 backup files the oldest is deleted when a new one is created, so there are never more than 30 files
- backup file names are of the format: NeckDiagramsBackup-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.zip
- e.g. NeckDiagramsBackup-20220320-201206.zip
Configuration
The Automatic Backup Preferences Page shows you the current backup status and allows you to control the location where your backups are kept.
The Automatic Backup preference page.
You can keep the backups wherever you choose by pressing the Change Location button and choosing a new destination. Note that "NeckDiagrams2-backups" will be created in the directory you choose. Once Apply or OK is pressed on the preference page then any backups in the current location will also get moved to the new destination.
The "Show in File Explorer" (or "Show in Finder" on the Mac) is a shortcut that will show the contents of the backups directory in the Windows File Explorer or the Mac Finder.
The backup archive ZIP files.
Restoring From Backups
To restore a file from a backup you must extract the desired file from the ZIP archive backup to your hard drive and import into Neck Diagrams via drag and drop, i.e. just drag the required project/folder/page into the desired location in the Diagram Gallery view.
