Are you having trouble labeling open strings in Neck Diagrams? 🎸 Do you want the open string markers to display the same information as the markers on the fretboard? 🎶 Follow these steps to easily display notes or intervals on open strings. 📝
Step 1: Select the Fretboard
First, ensure you have your fretboard selected in the Neck Diagrams software. In this case we are going to choose a vertical one
Step 2: Open the Inspector Panel
Navigate to the Inspector panel, which contains various options for customizing your fretboard.
We are going to create an E7 chord. First, go to the Inspector and select "Show tuning." Here is how to do it:
- Open the Inspector panel.
- Check the "Show tuning" option.
Step 3: Create the E7 Chord
Once you have selected the "Show tuning" option, proceed to create your E7 chord.
For the open strings, we will select white notes.
For the open strings, we will select white notes.
You can customize this anytime you prefer. Additionally, you can choose the root note for this chord.
Step 4: Enable Notes/Intervals on Open Strings
In the Inspector panel, locate the "Board" tab. Under this tab, find and check the option labeled "Draw notes/intervals on open strings."
Step 5: Choose What to Display
You can choose whether you want to display notes or intervals. To do this, find the "Note marker labels" dropdown menu in the Inspector panel and select either "Notes" or "Intervals."
Remember, the "Note marker labels" option acts as a master switch for the whole fretboard. You do not need to change this setting for each note individually unless you want to override it for specific notes.
Here we can watch a full tutorial about every step 🎥
Common Issues and Solutions
Issue: Notes/Intervals Not Showing on Open Strings
- Solution 1: Ensure the fretboard is selected and the "Draw notes/intervals on open strings" option is checked.
- Solution 2: Check the "Note marker labels" dropdown menu and make sure it is set to the desired option (Notes or Intervals).
- Solution 3: Verify that there are no global settings in your preferences that might be overriding this option.
- Solution 4: Make sure there are no color issues causing the notes/intervals to be invisible (e.g., white notes on a white background).
Issue: Cannot Find the "Note Marker Labels" Dropdown Menu
- Solution: The location of the "Note marker labels" field may have changed in different versions of Neck Diagrams. In newer versions, this field is located nearer the top of the Inspector panel, just below "Starting fret."
Additional Tips
- Persistent Settings: There is a setting in Preferences to enable note/interval information on open strings by default for all new fretboards.
