How to Transfer ND Files Between Computers

Got yourself a new computer and want to move your Neck Diagrams setup from the old to the new? No problem!

1. Confirm Your Version

Check whether you’re using the old ND1 or ND2:

• Open Neck Diagrams on your old computer.

• For ND2, the application title bar will say Neck Diagrams 2, ND1 says Neck Diagrams.

• For more detailed confirmation, on Windows go to the Help menu where you'll see a sub-menu About Neck Diagrams - or - About Neck Diagrams 2. On MacOS there's a menu with the application name:

  • If it’s ND2, the menu will say About Neck Diagrams 2 and the popup will show the version number.

Knowing your version is important because ND1 and ND2 store files in different locations

2. Locate Your Files

• Windows

  • ND1: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\NeckDiagrams\

  • ND2 (default): C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\NeckDiagrams\

• Mac

  • ND1: /Users/<YourUsername>/Library/Application Support/NeckDiagrams/

  • ND2 (default): /Users/<YourUsername>/Documents/NeckDiagrams/

ND2 lets you configure the location, so you can also verify the folder in Settings / Preferences > Data Folders.

3. Transfer Your Diagram Files

1. Close Neck Diagrams on both machines.

2. Copy the Neck Diagrams folder from the old Mac.

3. If you're using the same major version number on both machines (i.e. both running ND1 or both ND2):

   1. Paste the folder on the new computer in the same location

4. If you're upgrading to ND2 on the new computer from ND1 on the old

   1. Copy from the old ND1 location on the old computer, to the new ND2 location on the new.

5. Note you can use a cloud folder (iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc) with ND2 but you'll need to configure it to point to the folder in the relevant location, via the Settings / Preferences > Data Folders window.

4. Transfer Your Preferences (Settings)

Preferences include layout settings and other personal default configurations.

Mac

• Folder -

  • ND1: /Users/<YourUsername>/Library/Application Support/NeckDiagrams/

  • ND2: /Users/<YourUsername>/Library/Application Support/NeckDiagrams2/

• Copy this folder from your old Mac and paste it in the same location on the new Mac.

Windows

• Folder -

  • ND1: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\NeckDiagrams

  • ND2: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\NeckDiagrams2

• Copy from the old PC and paste it to the same location on the new PC.

💡 Note: If upgrading from ND1 to ND2 then copy from the ND1 location to the ND2 location.

💡 Note: Preferences do not include your diagram files—they must be moved separately as described in Step 3 above.

5. Install ND2 and Activate Your License

• Install ND2 on your new machine (Mac or PC).

• Activate it with your license key.

• Move your files and preferences as described above.

6. Optional: Use Apple Migration Assistant (Mac Only)

✅ Quick Notes

• Always close Neck Diagrams before copying files or preferences.

• Don’t work on the same file on two machines simultaneously if using cloud storage.

• Diagram files and preferences are moved separately.

• ⚠️ If using a cloud folder, don’t edit the same file on both machines at the same time to avoid version conflicts.
